Dissertation Print and Bind Service

Our order form will take you step-by-step through the process of ordering your finished Dissertation. The form is split into several pages, described below. To order, just click on one of the order buttons below.

If you are printing and binding your document for personal use rather than following university regulations, we recommend using our bespoke binding service – this gives you much more freedom on designing the finished product.

First, you specify the number of copies of the bound Dissertation you require. So if you require 1 Hard-bound and 1 Velo-bound copy, you would enter 2 in the Number of Copies box.

The majority of our customers require printing, so the form defaults to this. If you are printing the document your self, please tick the box stating that you do not require printing and provide the information requested.

If you do require printing, please let us know the number of Black and White pages in a single copy of the book, and the number of colour pages. The form will automatically calculate the total cost based on the number of copies. For example, if your document is 200 pages of black and white you would enter 200 in the Black and White Printing Quantity field. Do not double the number of pages if you ordered more than one copy, we do this calculation for you.

We offer a PDF checking service to make sure that your document will print perfectly for the binding. Let us know if you have any pages you want us to specifically check (5 maximum).

Firstly pick the turn-around time. This tells us how urgently you need your binding completed.

Then let us know how many of each binding type you require. So if you wanted one hard binding and one velo, you would enter 1 into the relevant fields.

We offer a selection of extras that can be added to your bound books. You can leave the fields blank if you do not require anything or specify how many you would like of each in the relevant fields.

Binding Style

Here you can pick the cover colour for your hard and soft bindings. You can either pick by University or by colour. This allows you to select a prefered colour for your own personal copy if you wish!

This allows you to specify the lettering details for your hard and soft binding. Simply complete the fields.

Let us know if you want us to ship the finished books to you or if you will collect them. We offer FREE shipping to many London Universities or you can specify any address you like. You can also specify multiple addresses if you ordered more than one copy too.

Additional Details

We can take photos of your finished Dissertation before we ship it. This is ideal if you have the book shipped straight to the University and you never see it.

You can also provide any extra information about your order and upload your finished PDF file. If the file is over 50mb, please use the private yousendit link.

The final step is payment. We take debit/credit cards via our payment providers of Payzone and Paypal. This means that your card details are 100% safe and do not get stored on our servers.

Royal Mail Tracked delivery to UK addresses is free for all orders over £10, and creating a cover for hardback or paperback dissertations is also free.

You can create a cover online for both paperback and hardback dissertations, using the free in-browser Cover Designer. For spiral bound dissertations, the front and back page of your Word Doc or PDF can be used for the front and back cover.

We offer two delivery services: UK delivery Delivery to anywhere in the UK mainland and it typically takes 3-4 working days. Deliveries to outside the UK mainland and the Scottish Highlands typically take 4-7 working days. Express central London Your thesis will be delivered either the day the order is processed or the following working day. This service is only available to the following postcodes: EC1, EC2, EC3, EC4, WC1, WC2, W1, NW1 and SE1.

Printing on good quality 100g paper: B/W throughout: 10p per side Colour & B/W mix: 21p per side Front cover foiling: £15 per bind. Documents are usually a mix of B/W and colour so we have calculated a special reduced rate of 21p to accommodate this. These prices are for students only and already include student discount. The printing prices are only for when we print the entire document. If only parts of the document require printing or any customer collation is required different timescales and printing prices will apply.

When will it be ready?

We have a handy tool to calculate when your thesis will be ready for all of the options available.

For collection in-store orders we offer a 48, 24, 4 or 2 hour service. This includes the printing time. If ordering online the timeframe chosen does not start until the order has been received and processed by our staff. This can take up to an hour during peak periods and only between 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Orders received outside this time will not be begin until 9am the next working day. Orders for Standard UK delivery will be ready for dispatch within 2 working days and couriers will then deliver within 1-2 working days. Orders for Express central London will be delivered either the day the order is processed or the next working day. There may be a delay if delivery cannot be made. The 2 hour service may not be available during peak times so please get in contact in advance to discuss. We do not take advance bookings.

We have a number of templates for various universities so no need to worry, just press the relevant button when ordering. If you require something different for somewhere else, not a problem, just choose the Custom option and you can specify the relevant specification for your university.

Cover & Spine Format

We can bind with black or blue Buckram cloth to your university's specification, you'll just need to let us know whether you'd like soft or hard covers and the information for the spine e.g. PhD 2024 SMITH, A. Foiling can be gold or silver. If you would also like your front cover foiled you will need to supply us a single page PDF of the front cover. The PDF must be B/W and contain only text and small simple line images only. Anything else may not print properly.

Printing & Binding

All of our theses are bound using extra strong glue along the spine. You can either bring us the document ready to bind or we can print it here on good quality 100gsm paper. We may not accept pre-printed documents which we decide are too curly to be bound. We can bind between approximately 25 and 435 sheets of 100g (depending on the paper) in one volume. A blank sheet is inserted at the front and back as standard. Larger theses are split into two volumes (please check with your college or university if multiple volumes are accepted). We only bind A4 sheets so all A3 sheets will be scaled down to A4. We only bind theses in portrait (long edge) so all landscape pages are automatically rotated to portrait. Both soft and hard bound thesis are glue bound. We do not check the layout, content or margins of your document so you must ensure what you send us is correct to your university's specification.

As specialist book printers, we work with a variety of customers to produce some unique books. A growing trend for us is our thesis and dissertation printing. We have produced a number of books in this genre as casebound hardback books with various unique options such as; cover foiling, embossing and spot UV.

You can have your thesis or dissertation printed and bound at almost any size as a paperback or a hardback. Our most common size for thesis and dissertation printing is in either Royal format (234x156mm) or A4 format (297x210mm).

If your thesis or dissertation is at a custom size, as long as it is over A6 and under A4 landscape then we will be able to print and bind it as a paperback or a hardback book.

We have a vast range of paper types to choose from depending on the content of your book. Our most popular paper types are below;

80gsm Opaque  - Good for nonfiction books and good for keeping the costs low. Opaque 80gsm is our cheapest paper and helps with cheap book printing if you are on a budget.

100gsm Opaque  - Also good for non-fiction books. As it is a heavier paper than the opaque 80gsm it is better for colour images as there will be less show through. It is more expensive than the opaque 80gsm but only by a little.

80gsm Munken Bookwove White  - This is the standard paper for novels and fiction titles. It is a slightly off-white paper with a slightly rough/textured feel. It is also good for ‘bulking’ up the book as it is slightly thicker than the 80gsm and 100gsm opaque papers.

80gsm Munken Bookwove Cream  - This is the same paper as the Bookwove White but as the name suggests, this is the cream version. Again this paper is mostly used for novels and for making the spine of your book bigger.

100gsm Recycled  - A popular paper for non-fiction titles. This is our recycled paper which is a white similar to the 100gsm Opaque but has a slightly rougher feel but is smoother than the Bookwove papers.

We also offer a range of coated papers from 115gsm to 170gsm which are good for printing photographs and high-quality images. We are able to print any number of pages in a plate section on the coated papers and then insert them into the book. This is a great option if you want to have the text printed on the nice Bookwove paper and have some colour images on 130gsm coated paper.

For our casebound hardback books, we use a 135gsm coloured wibalin cover wrapped around a 2750 micron board or we can use a PPC cover wrapped around the same board instead of the coloured wibalin. This is by far the most popular option with dissertation printing as it provides the best protection for our book and will certainly last several lifetimes if it is cared for.

For our paperback covers, we use 240gsm cover board; however, other thicknesses are available. After printing, we usually apply a laminate, this would be either a gloss or matt lamination. We offer various options to add a touch of elegance and professionalism:

• Foiling: Add a metallic or colored foil to your book cover for a luxurious and eye-catching effect. Foiling can be used for logos, titles, or other design elements to make them stand out.
• Embossing: Create a raised or 3D effect on specific areas of your cover. Embossing adds a tactile dimension to your booklet, making it more engaging and visually appealing.
• Shrink Wrapping: Ensure your booklets arrive in pristine condition with shrink wrapping. This protects each booklet during transport and provides a professional finish for distribution or retail display.

These extras can significantly elevate the look and feel of your hardback book, making them stand out and leaving a lasting impression on your audience.

Perfect bound paperbacks come with a minimum spine width of 3 mm, which roughly equates to a 36-page book printed on our 80gsm munken bookwove paper. The maximum spine width is 50 mm which when printed on our 80gsm bookwove paper would equate to roughly 720 pages or 950 pages when printed on our 80gsm opaque paper.
